Food and Entertainment

    Table of contents

    Introduction

"Food" could be anything from pizza delivery or a snack bar to a fine dining experience. "Entertainment" may be music, theatre, or other show or performance.

    A few tips:

    1. For places beyond the Downtown Communities, please create a separate wiki page.
    2. Please include an address or other identifier (for example "5th avenue in Gaslamp" or "Seaport Village East end", "corner of G and First").
    3. Please share any inside information such as which times are crowded, is there a special deal one day a week, etc.
    4. For one-time events, please use the event calendar instead.
    5. If you want to elaborate on an existing comment, edit that portion of the page. Otherwise, add to the bottom of the page.  To make it easy to read the page, please copy and paste a horizontal line onto the end of your comment.

    Food And Entertainment

Hennessey's Tavern (corner of 4th and G) has buy-one-get-one-free burgers on Tuesdays. The options include a turkey burger or veggie burger as well as the usual beef and toppings (bbq or teriyaki sauce, mushrooms, cheese, etc.) It is crowded when there is a Padres home game or other downtown event but otherwise Tuesday evening around 5-6 is quiet.

Tin Fish (5th and Trolley Tracks) is next to the beautiful, fun, and kid hypnotizing Dancing Water Fountain. Go for lunch and try the delicious fish taco's. Relatively cheap, relatively to the rest of the GasLamp.

Market Street Grill (Market and 4th). They are usually very mellow around lunch and have good burgers.

Monsoon (4th and G). Indian food. Somewhat pricey $15 buffet lunches but extremely yummy, and our one year-ish old loves to gnaw on the naan (flat bread) and devour the mango pudding desserts.

Dinner buffet on Monday nights is also $15 which is a good deal for a Gaslamp dinner.

Cine Cafe (K between 4th and 5th). Yummy and inexpensive sandwiches, but the vibe is all wrong for eating-- eat at the park across the street.

Galileo 101 (2nd and J). A coupon tricked us into going here. Extremely expensive non-yummy food.  Galileo 101 closed in 2008.

Jimmy Love's (5th and G). Jazz starts at 6:30pm Sunday - Thursday. This is a place for adults in the late evening, but in the early evening take the kids to see and hear live music and enjoy some fabulous food. We've found the Wednesday evening musicians to be especially friendly. The prices are typical of the Gaslamp Quarter, but worth it. When there isn't a convention in town, there are plenty of free tables early in weekday evenings. http://jimmyloves.com

The Field (5th between Market and Island). The Field is not just an Irish bar. Our 3 year old was mesmerized for over an hour by live Irish music and dancing. The food was not as high end as Jimmy Love's, but neither was the price, and the addition of dancing to the live music left our daughter saying "This is the best restaurant ever. I want to come here every night." (I'm sure that will wear off.) http://www.thefield.com

East Village Tavern and Bowling Alley (930 Market) San Diego Metropolitan Magazine reports 6 lanes of bowling will be opening in June 2007.

Fuddruckers (Between 5th and 6th on Broadway) Fuddruckers is finally open, as of Feb 18, 2008.  This isn't much help to the vegetarians, but if you like burgers, you have one more kid friendly option downtown.  (They do offer a veggie burger, but meat is their specialty.) Fuddruckers closed in 2009.
